Girls aims to help African students with “˜Hennessey bag”™ creations

Local youth  Hennessey Veit faces an uphill challenge to raise $1,500 for school uniforms, enabling children from Zimbabwe to attend school.

On Jan. 14, Veit and her family held a “Hennessey bag” workshop at the Fergus Legion.

“I wanted to teach other kids how to make Hennessey bags and tell them that even one person can make a difference,” said Veit.

Each participant was asked to bring two T-shirts, donating one to Veit and keeping the other for themselves.

An extraordinary 56 bags were created from the shirts and over 20 T-shirts were donated.

“A special thanks going out to Gaye and Elizabeth for opening our eyes to the Villages of Hope in Zimbabwe, and for your fantastic presentation on Saturday,” said Veit’s mother Christine.

Me to We an inspiration

A number of families from Fergus, Elora and Belwood participated, along with the Centre Wellington Interact Group, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the Central Pentecostal Church.

The Hennessey bag journey began when Veit and her mother attended the first annual Me to We Family event. Veit realized the impact she could make and how she could encourage the Centre Wellington community to make a difference too.

Throughout 2017, Veit will be running fundraising events and will be looking for opportunities to sell her Hennessey bags.
